I am affirmations

Okay, so full disclosure: The power of the spoken word, specifically the “I am,” has been on my mind and heart for a couple of weeks, and after hearing Darius Wright refer to them as the ultimate abracadabra for the soul, I knew I had to take the Nestea plunge into the world of affirmations.

Today’s post covers a lot of ground. Here are the quick and dirty details of what we’ll cover. Go ahead and save this for later if you are crunched for time. This one’s a keeper.

  • What are affirmations
  • How to use affirmations
  • Three power rules
  • How long it takes affirmations to work
  • How to know if they’re working
  • Affirmations for self-confidence
  • Biblical affirmations
  • Affirmations for motivation
  • Affirmations for Abundance
  • Affirmations for Success

What Are I Am Affirmations?

Affirmations are quick, effective statements that serve as bolts of positivity that rewire your brain for confidence and overall well-being. Seriously, there is power with a capital P behind repeating these “I am” affirmations —and science backs that up.

Leveraging the power of positive affirmations will help you overcome negative thought patterns and belief systems in your subconscious mind – even ones you may not know you have.

For example, you may have picked up a few limited mindsets during childhood from well-meaning but ill-informed family members. (We now know that these belief programs are ingrained in us during our first six years.)

Maybe you grew up in a family that, despite good intentions, told you life was out to get you, or my all-time favorite effed-up family mantra: shit happens, deal with it. It’s a helluva message to receive at 4; and you better believe it sticks.

Or perhaps your Mom, Dad, and literally every Aunt on your Dad’s side told you obesity runs in your family and diets don’t work for your DNA. Which is total b.s, by the way. But, as ridiculous as it is, that untruth has become their go-to mantra, and even if you aren’t intentionally doing it, that script is in your subconscious sabotaging you every time you try to lose weight.

Leveraging the power of I am affirmations will help you challenge and change the negative mind scripts that are holding you back.

Is There A Way To Screw Up This Process, Or How Do I Use Affirmations?

Look, I know the thought that simply stating affirmations every day will change your life sounds a little “woo-woo,” but the process works if used correctly, and science backs that up. Thankfully, there are only three main rules.

Rule Number 1 – Affirm The Truth.

Do not lie to yourself. The first time I tried the Law of Attraction, I screwed it up royally. I had over 100 pounds to lose, and I wanted it off in what I considered a reasonable amount of time. One week. I was lying to myself; my subconscious knew it, and it didn’t work. When I shifted that rigid mindset to I am becoming comfortable in my body, I began to see progress.

Rule Number 2: Location Location Location

Your affirmations need to be somewhere you will see them. I call this one the real estate rule of affirmations. Writing them on a scratch sheet of paper that we both know will sink to the bottom of your purse/wallet/man purse/whathaveyou will not cut it. You and I both know that is where good intentions go to die.
Write your affirmations and place them somewhere you will see them, like by your bathroom mirror or the coffee pot. The bottom line is to put them where you will see them so that using them becomes a daily habit.

Rule Number Three – Use Your Voice

Saying your affirmations out loud directly impacts the subconscious brain. Speaking them aloud requires more focus and attention, yielding a better result for you. For maximum impact, pair them with positive emotions. There is something about hearing your voice speak these states into existence that strengthens and speeds up the results.

How long does it take to rewire your brain using affirmations?

You’re ready for change, and I get it. I wish I could tell you in seven days and one full moon, you will become the best version of yourself, but I’d be lying to you, and I won’t do that.  I will tell you you will feel a difference within 30 days. Because everyone’s brain and brain neuroplasticity, or the ability to change, is different, there is no one hard and fast rule, but on average, allow yourself three to six months to feel the maximum benefit.

Is This Working?

You will know that your affirmations are working based on how you feel. Keep a journal of your progress and how you react when you repeat an affirmation.

For example, let’s say you are working on body confidence, and your affirmation is, “I am at home in my body.”
Ask yourself if that rings true.
What are some examples of feeling at home in your body since you started using affirmations?
Do you believe it?
Trust yourself, and give yourself time and grace.

Ready to reprogram your brain for your greater good? I thought so! Feel free to use these I am affirmations as written or for inspiration to write your own.
