I prefer the DIY option & make my own-it’s easy, healthy, low carb, and much cheaper!
The main ingredients in most all homemade seasonings are the same:
- Chili Powder
- Garlic Powder
- Onion Powder
- Cayenne Pepper
Now let’s take a week look at the “extra” stuff in the store-bought seasoning packets. (I looked at Old El Paso & Taco Bell)
- Maltodextrin: Artificial Sugar
- Corn starch: Highly-processed carbohydrate used to thicken
- Yellow Corn Flour: Starchy grain
- Vegetable Oil: Canola, Soybean or Sunflower Oil
- Silicone Dioxide Also known as sand
- Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) Depending on who you ask it’s either safe or a potential neurotoxin
How To Make Taco Seasoning
It’s so easy to make your own seasoning! No special equipment necessary! All you have to do is combine the ingredients & you’re done! Store it in an airtight container (like a Mason Jar) in a cool, dry space.
How Much Seasoning To Use Per Pound
Use this seasoning for ground beef, steak, chicken, or ground turkey! I use 2 tablespoons of seasoning plus 1/2 cup of water (or bone broth) per pound. You can use more or less seasoning depending on how much flavor you prefer. This recipe yields 6 tablespoons of taco seasoning. Feel free to double the recipe if you’re planning ahead!
